In The Meadow

Meadow anemone (Anemone canadensis), commonly known as Canada anemone, is a hardy, upright herbaceous perennial native to moist meadows, stream banks, and low woodlands across North America. A member of the buttercup family (Ranunculaceae), it is recognized by its deeply lobed, deeply cut green foliage and cup-shaped, five-petaled white flowers with prominent golden-yellow centers that bloom from late spring through mid-summer. Growing between one and two feet tall, it thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers consistently moist, well-draining soils rich in organic matter. Meadow anemone spreads vigorously via rhizomatous underground root networks, making it an exceptional native ground cover for soil stabilization, rain gardens, and naturalized meadow landscapes, though its aggressive spreading habit requires intentional space management to prevent it from crowding out less vigorous garden plants.
